Participation of master students to RobAfis Challenge 2017

Master students of Université de Technologie de Compiègne recently took part of RobAFIS 2017 edition organized by AFIS. UTC enrolled two teams: UTC Group A and UTC Group B, both composed of students from the Masters of systèmes complexes en interaction (MSCI) program. The participation in RobAFIS is part of SMA04 course labelled as “system modelling and simulation”. This course presents the system engineering approach and the RobAFIS competition is used as a real case-study.

This year’s edition was about developing a system composed of a small race vehicle (100x200mm and approximately 550g weight) and two remote commands based on a cellphone and a laptop. Developing the system must be done using system engineering. Students had to overcome multidisciplinary challenges as the complete system integrates software and connectivity development, electronics components and mechanical parts.

The two-day competition took place at Sigma – Clermont Ferrand. The first day was dedicated to a compliance audit and the race on a printed track. UTC was competing versus ten others groups from eight different French universities. The second day was focused on oral presentation and result announcement. UTC’s groups finished outside of the first three – only the first three are ranked – but students can be satisfied with their own results.
