Overview

The device "Laboratories of Excellence" aims to provide the best national laboratories with international visibility and significant resources to enable them to compete with their foreign counterparts, to attract researchers and academics of international renown and build a political integrated research, training and development of high level. The Labex MS2T “Control of Technological Systems-of-Systems” is a multi-disciplinary scientific problem that targets a scope of application that may be very large. Backed by the experience of the three partner laboratories, Labex MS2T will make significant progress on three significant social issues : Transport and Mobility, Security, Health (ICT and Health Engineering).

Investing for the Future

The Laboratory of Excellence Labex MS2T was chosen by the French government in March 2011 after being selected by an international jury as part of the “Investments for the Future” program. It received a 6.7 million euros grant for nine years.

The "Laboratories of Excellence" program, coordinated by ANR, aims to provide the best national laboratories with international visibility and significant resources in order to enable them to compete with their foreign counterparts, attract internationally renowned researchers and academics, and create a high-level and integrated policy for research, training and development.

UTC

Université de Technologie de Compiègne is a public institution which awards engineering degrees, master’s degrees and PhDs. Its main fields of interest are education, research and technology transfer. Created in 1972 as a new model in the French higher education system, UTC is now a successful educational institution in the French academic landscape and is classified as a top-ranked institution for engineering.

CNRS

The French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) is a government-funded research organization under the administrative authority of the French Ministry of Research. The CNRS operates through both its own laboratories and other laboratories run jointly with universities, fellow research organizations and privates companies. These laboratories are located throughout France, and several of them are even located abroad.

The institutes are aimed at implementing the organization’s scientific policy. Two institutes are of direct interest to Labex MS2T: the INS2I Institute for Information Sciences and Technologies, INSIS Institute for Engineering and Systems Sciences, and the Mission for Interdisciplinarity.

Sorbonne Universités

Sorbonne Universités is a Research and Higher Education Cluster created in 2010 which groups together major institutions:

·         Two universities: Paris-Sorbonne (art, humanities and social science), Pierre et Marie Curie (science and engineering)

·         One engineering school: UTC (Université de Technologie de Compiègne)

·         One business school: INSEAD

·         One museum: Muséum national d’histoire naturelle (National Museum of Natural History)

·         Four public research organisations: CNRS, Inserm (National Institute of Health and Medical Research), IRD (Institute of research for development, Inria.

In spring 2012, Sorbonne Universités was one of the successful candidates of the Excellence Initiative (IDEX) call for projects. The aim of this initiative was to create five to ten world-class pluridisciplinary clusters of higher education and research.
